if he is a Top 100 HS baseball prospect there is always the possibility he could be drafted. Lots of guys have attended college to play football over the years then played minor league baseball in the summer.

at the D2 and especially D3 levels. At the lower levels, it is called filling the dorms and they take as many as they can to get to money for tuition plus room and board. I know a kicker from a local HS that went to a D3 school a few years ago in Virginia. First day of practice he finds out he is one of 7 PK’s on the roster and there were over 150 players on the practice field. A D2 baseball program recently brought in over 70 players and held tryouts in August to see who would be on the roster for fall practices after Labor Day. The tryout candidates already paid their money for school, but did not find out about the tryouts until they had arrived on campus. There is a lot of attrition when schools do this at the D2/D3 and I think it is highly unethical. Look at the link below of VT’s baseball recruiting class in 2022. Several of them have never appeared on the spring roster or played in a game for the Hokies. Also, I’m not talking about the guys who were drafted. Some of them didn’t make the spring roster and were cut loose from the program by the coaching staff after the fall semester.

All a high school student who was drafted to a school he didn’t want to attend would need to say is they don’t offer my major there. I realize education is not the main goal for many college athletes, but it does influence where many attend school. Also, would a player need to declare for a conference? A student in California might be interested in playing in the Big 10 for USC, UCLA, Oregon or Washington, but gets drafted by Maryland or Rutgers. Can’t imagine the player or the parents being really happy about that happening. Lastly, wouldn’t the transfer portal nullify a draft? Get drafted to a school you don’t want to be at then transfer to where you want to go at the end of the first semester. The transfer portal isn’t going anywhere and it would completely negate a draft.

and the list today listed Jackson Cherry as Virginia Tech. He played at Jefferson Forest HS and at Mercer University since entering college. I saw something recently that he entered the portal, but I didn’t know he had committed to VT.

I followed Lynchburg during the D3 CWS last year and watched most of their games online. Very few pitchers if any were touching 90 mph which makes it hard to evaluate the hitters. Obviously with players like Ben Watson at VT this year there are players that can make the jump, but it’s really hard to evaluate them unless they have played well in a more competitive summer league. I’m pulling for Lynchburg to repeat as national champions, but I hope Birmingham Southern can make it to the finals.

there are bullpen mounds on the field down the LF Line at UVA’s baseball field. There are bullpen mounds on the RF line along with a bullpen behind the fence in RCF, too. (Pictures below) Perhaps having them along the foul lines make it more convenient to use during practice when multiple pitchers might need to throw. Or possibly a two way player could use the ones located on the LF line to warm up instead of going out to the RCF pen? Not to mention there are a quite a bit of brown spots on the playing surface. Assuming everyone stays? Does Trinity Martin take over an OF spot? Could Bre Peck move back to CF so Castin, Rohs, and Trunk can all get time in the infield? Does LeGette take over the DP spot? Is there anyone else you see breaking into the lineup?
